I’m upgrading server hardware for a client to a new iMac running MacOS 10.12. We run MySQL, Apache and FTP services on their local network. The problem I am having is that these services become unresponsive about ~15 minutes after the display goes to sleep. I have set System Prefs -> Energy Saver to…
- Turn Display Off After 5 minutes
- Checked: Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off
Despite these settings my connections here on a local network timeout about 15 minutes after the display goes to sleep. If I wake up the computer sometimes they start working again. If I restart everything is fine until the display sleeps again.
Currently they have an older iMac with OS X 10.5 that runs these services with prefs set to never sleep the computer and it has worked flawlessly. I’ve read that the newer iMacs use a Haswell processor and that that chip has it’s own power saving mode aside from system prefs. If I can’t get this machine to keep those services available at all times it’s useless.
Does anyone know why this is happening and how to solve it?
