Explanation

This event is logged when Microsoft® Exchange Server cannot replicate data between the Exchange Server 2003 Site Replication Service (SRS) server and an Exchange Server 5.5 server.

The following describes some exception codes that might be included in this event:

  • E0010001 is a general exception.

  • E0010002 is a directory service exception (ordinarily a replication error).

  • E0010003 is a memory exception (insufficient memory).

  • E0010004 is a Jet database error (sometimes harmless errors are logged and handled).

  • E0010005 is a bad argument exception.

  • E0010006 is a Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) exception (most are harmless and correspond to a failed LDAP call).

A common cause of this error is that the Extensible Database Engine in Exchange Server 2003 creates compressed file objects larger than 4 KB for replication, whereas, the Extensible Database Engine (ESE97) in Exchange Server 5.5 supports replication of compressed file objects of up to 4 KB only. If Microsoft Product Support Services can verify that you are experiencing Event 1071 because of this 4-KB limitation, there is a Microsoft Product Support Services update that you can apply to resolve this error.
