Message: process name (process id) %3The log version stamp of logfile %4 does not match the database engine version stamp. The logfiles may be the wrong version for the database.

Explanation

The log version stamp of a log file does not match the database engine

version stamp. Because of this mismatch, the information store databases may not mount.

The log files are the wrong version for the database engine. NOTE: The

Exchange 2000 database engine = ESE.dll.

In Exchange 2000 SP2, the databases are upgraded to a newer version. All

known occurrences of ESE Event ID 411 are related to this upgrade:

  • Cause 1 – The most common reason for ESE Event ID 411 occurs when

restoring Exchange 2000 (no Service Pack) or Exchange 2000 SP1 backup to an

    Exchange 2000 SP2 server.

  • Cause 2 – When restoring an Exchange 2000 SP2 backup to an Exchange

to an Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2000 SP1 server.

  • Cause 3 – When upgrading from Exchange 2000 SP2 Standard to

Exchange 2000 Enterprise, and failing to re-apply Exchange 2000 SP2.

User Action
  • Resolution 1 – To work around this issue if you need to remove an

Exchange 2000 SP2 upgrade and put an earlier Exchange 2000 installation in its

place, you must restore the original system state, file system, transaction

    logs, and database.

Resolution 2 – Upgrade to Exchange 2000 SP2, and then mount the
    databases.

  • Resolution 3 – Re-apply Exchange 2000 SP2.
