The disk volume that contains a Microsoft ® Exchange Server database has reached the maximum allowed database size.
If you are running a version of Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition earlier than Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2), you must consider the following limitations that apply to mailbox stores and public folder stores:
If you are running Exchange Server 2003 SP2 or a later version, you can configure the maximum size of the Exchange Server 2003 database. For information about the improvements in database size limit configuration and management when you use Exchange Server 2003 SP2, see the Database Size Limit Configuration and Management topic in the Technical Reference Guide for Exchange Server 2003.
If you have exceeded the 16-GB database limit, you can temporarily increase the database size limit to 17 GB and then restart the Microsoft Exchange Server Information Store service. If you temporarily increase the maximum size of the information store to 17 GB, the Exchange Server database will be able to mount while you reduce the amount of data on the database.
To enable this functionality in Exchange Server 2003 Standard Edition, you must create the required new registry value.
