Message: The Microsoft Exchange Replication Service is unable to access the replication state for %1. Please verify that the Cluster service is running. The specific error code returned is: %2.

Explanation

This Error event indicates that the Microsoft® Exchange Replication (MSExchangeRepl) service cannot obtain the replication state for the specified storage group copy. The event occurs when the storage group copy status does not contain the correct state, as returned by the Get-StorageGroupCopyStatus cmdlet. This usually indicates that a larger problem exists. For example, the Microsoft Cluster Services (MSCS) could have stopped. If the MSCS stops, a failover to the passive node will occur.

For more information about the Get-StorageGroupCopyStatus cmdlet, see Get-StorageGroupCopyStatus.

User Action

To resolve the error, follow one or more of these steps:

  • Check the specific error description of the event in the Application log.

  • Use the Services snap-in to check whether the MSCS is running.

If you are not already doing so, consider running the tools that Microsoft Exchange offers to help administrators analyze and troubleshoot their Exchange environment. These tools can help you make sure that your configuration is in line with Microsoft best practices. They can also help you identify and resolve performance issues, improve mail flow, and better manage disaster recovery scenarios. Go to the Toolbox node of the Exchange Management Console to run these tools now. For more information about these tools, see Toolbox in the Exchange Server 2007 Help.
