7020139: sblim – gatherer daemon is not starting

This document (7020139) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 1 (SLES 12 SP1)

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2 (SLES 12 SP2)

Situation

The sblim Metric Gatherer daemon does not start on boot even though it’s enabled to start up.

A ‘journalctl’ output shows :

<date> <time> <hostname> gatherd[1075]: mcs_init: could not open lockfile

/var/run/gather/.gather-lockfile, error string No such file or directory

Resolution

A future sblim-gather update will include the patch to resolve the problem. Customers affected by this issue can alternatively contact SUSE Customer Care to request a PTF (temporary fix).

Cause

The sblim-gather package doesn’t account for /var/run on tmpfs. The /run/gather subdirectory wasn’t registered with tmpfile.d, so it wasn’t created after reboot.
