SAV for Linux/Unix: When the /tmp is low on space tgz files may report as corrupt if they cannot be extracted fully

This article provides information about how Sophos Anti-Virus for Linux/Unix handles an out of memory condition in the temp folder (Default /tmp). When trying to open a compressed using the gzip format (including .tar.gz), if the TMP directory does not have enough space to expand the compressed file, it will report that the file is corrupt.

While the engine will not be able to scan the file, it will not impede the rest of the scan.

It is recommended to increase the size of the /tmp folder on the system. If this is not possible, it is possible to redirect the temp directory by setting the environment variable SAV_TMP to an alternate location.
