Request with Workspace Get a Request Link you can send yourself Request Files to a Specific Folder


Request with Workspace

Request with Workspace allows you to send your file request via Workspace’s email system. With this method, the recipient receives an email message containing a secure link to upload the file(s).

Click Request Files from the Dashboard, then choose Request with Workspace

Customize Your Message Before Sending


  1. Enter a Recipient for your message. You can enter an external user’s email address manually, or select users from your address books or distribution groups.
  2. Request files will be uploaded to allows you to select where you want the uploaded files to be stored.
    • Files are uploaded to the File Box by default.
    • Remember, files that are in the File Box for longer than its default retention policy will automatically be deleted by the system.
    • If you want to be able to access the uploaded file beyond that retention period, select a different upload location or move it out of the File Box.
    • Files cannot be uploaded to the root of Shared Folders or Favorite Folders.
  3. Enter a Subject for your message. You may enter additional text in the Body of your message if needed.
  4. Edit Message Options allows you to customize the following:
    • Send me a copy of this email – Receive a copy of the email message
    • Email me when files are uploaded – Receive a notification email when the upload link is used by your recipient
    • Require recipients to log in – Require that recipients log in with their Workspace account (or create one)
    • Access expires – Set how long you want the upload link to be accessible
  5. Click Send when ready. You will receive confirmation that the request was sent successfully.

Get a Request Link

Get a Link allows you to quickly obtain a secure upload link you can share. With this method, Workspace generates a link that you can copy and paste.

Click Request Files from the Dashboard, then choose Get a Link

Customize Your Link Before Generating

  1. Request files will be uploaded to allows you to select where you want the uploaded files to be stored. Use the folder tree menu to select a new destination.
    • Files are uploaded to the File Box by default.
    • Remember, files that are in the File Box for longer than its default retention policy will automatically be deleted by the system.
    • If you want to be able to access the uploaded file beyond that retention period, select a different upload location or move it out of the File Box.
    • Files cannot be uploaded to the root of Shared Folders or Favorite Folders.
  2. Edit Link Options allows you to customize the following:
    • Email me when files are uploaded – Receive a notification email when the upload link is used by your recipient
    • Require recipients to enter name and email – Require that recipients enter their name and email address before they upload files. This is for tracking purposes.
    • Access expires – Set how long you want the upload link to be accessible
  3. Click Get a Link to generate the final link that you can then copy and paste.

Request Files to a Specific Folder

To have files uploaded directly to a folder through a request, navigate to the folder where you want files sent and click the Request Files link in the + menu to the right of the folder name.

Request Files to a Specific Folder

To have files uploaded directly to a folder through a request, navigate to the folder where you want files sent and click the Request Files link in the More Options menu to the right of the folder name.

I’m a new client user receiving a file request…what do I do?

When a ShareFile user sends you a Request a File link with the “Require User to Login” option checked, you will receive an email from mail@sf-notifications.com that includes an upload link. When this button is clicked, you will be prompted to create a password that you can use to sign in to the ShareFile account in order to upload files.

  1. Click the link to activate your account and upload files. Before you can upload files, you must set a password for your account.
  2. For security reasons, please do not close the browser window or navigate away from this page until you have configured your password.
  3. If the ShareFile user does not permit users to set their own passwords, your password will be displayed.
  4. Once you have set your password and clicked Save, you can upload files.

I closed the window before setting my password…what now?

Don’t worry. Simply return to the original email message and click on the link again. Instead of a password configuration page, you will be shown the following:

This will also trigger a new email message. Check your Inbox for a new email message containing an activation code, as shown below. This code must be entered in the field shown above within one hour.

Why do I have multiple emails with activation codes? Which one should I use?

  • The first time you click the link in your message, you will be taken to the password configuration page shown further up in this section.
  • If you clicked the link but then didn’t finish setting your password information, an activation code will be generated every time you click the link.
  • In order to verify your account, you must use the most recent activation code in your Inbox.Once you have verified your account, you will be able to access the link.
