Environment
NetIQ Self Service Password Reset 3.3 or later
Situation
After upgrading from Self Service Password Reset (SSPR) 3.2 to 3.3 users are unable to save their challenge responses.
They are receiving an error: Challenge Response Error – The response for question is too commonly used
They are receiving an error: Challenge Response Error – The response for question is too commonly used
Resolution
Uncheck Apply wordlist for the questions you do not want to have the wordlist applied to. This is done on a individual question by question basis. The Apply Wordlist will essentially rule out any single word answer. Then save the configuration and you should not have the same issue with single word answers for challenge responses.
Cause
There was a change to the way he wordlist is applied to challenge response questions with SSPR 3.3. Previously, there was a global option to apply the wordlist to the challenge questions in a yes or no fashion.
With SSPR 3.3 the wordlist is applied on an individual question basis. So there is a checkbox to apply the wordlist for each question (see attached jpgs). If the wordlist is applied, it essentially rules out a single word answer.
