Symantec Management Agent error (Core Agent Instalaltion error [GetInstallPath could not get the install path from InstallDir – error: 0x2])

I need a solution

When we install Symantec Management Agent on a new Windows 10 client machine, i see an error early on in the Agent log (in bold).

<event date=’01/23/2020 10:20:46.9040000 -05:00′ severity=’4′ hostName=’jima’ source=’Installer’ module=’AeXNSAgentInst.exe’ process=’AeXNSAgentInst.exe’ pid=’13576′ thread=’20108′ tickCount=’58660312′ >
 <![CDATA[Core Agent Installation started]]>
</event>
<event date=’01/23/2020 10:20:46.9080000 -05:00′ severity=’4′ hostName=’jima’ source=’CoreUtil’ module=’AeXNSAgentInst.exe’ process=’AeXNSAgentInst.exe’ pid=’13576′ thread=’20108′ tickCount=’58660328′ >
 <![CDATA[Symbolic link between 64 and 32 bit registry views either created or not required.]]>
</event>
<event date=’01/23/2020 10:20:46.9090000 -05:00′ severity=’1′ hostName=’jima’ source=’CoreUtil’ module=’AeXNSAgentInst.exe’ process=’AeXNSAgentInst.exe’ pid=’13576′ thread=’20108′ tickCount=’58660328′ >
 <![CDATA[GetInstallPath could not get the install path from InstallDir – error: 0x2]]>
</event>

Does anyone know what this event is telling me? Where is the Core Agent Install trying to get an install path from? Is there a setting on the server that isnt set correctly? where would i look for clues as to why we are seeing this error? And what is the Install Path used for? And if it doesnt have one, is it using a default one instead? It appears to continue the agent install without this variable.

Thank You

Distribute Disk Image: Unable to boot to Windows automation

I need a solution

Hello, I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 server with GSS 3.3 installed. Client computer OS is Windows 10, Disk Management looks like this:

Create image command: -CLONE,MODE=CREATE,SRC=2,DST=%IMAGE_FILENAME% -SURE -IB -SPLIT=0 -Z3

Restore command: -CLONE,MODE=PRESTORE,SRC=%IMAGE_FILENAME%:4,DST=2:4 -sure

The create image job works fine. Restore image job also works for the first time but failed for the second time, job status displayed “Unable to boot to Windows automation”.

I searched a little bit in this Forum and found similiar posts, e.g.

https://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/add-automa…

https://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/unable-boo…

For my situation, if the default boot setting is not correct initially, how the restore image job success for the first time? I am wondering, besides of checking boot order, is there any place I can check? Please advise, thank you in advance.

Symantec & Rubrik & Qstar backup issue

I need a solution

We have a Windows 2012 R2 server running Symantec Endpoint Protection 14.2.53.23.2000. Same behavior I am reporting was also observed with ver 14.0.3876.1100

We have a backup appliance Rubrik on version 5.2 that archives virtual machines fine to the above server fine. It is when we attempt to write a virtual machine tape, using Qstar software we run into a problem. The job keeps restarting.

If we disable Symantec the jobs fails. If we put exceptions in place for the Qstar directories the job fails too.

If we remove Symantec the job completes.

How do we go about troubleshooting this type of scenerio? Rubrik and Qstar believe Symantec is the cause.

Thanks!

How to view and mount GHO images? Where to download Norton Ghost Explorer?

I need a solution

I used Norton Ghost for many years. i want to clean up my old GHO files. My recovery experience is that GHO files are often corrupted, so I want to verify them before selecting which GHO files to save. I also want to open the GHO files to ensure that I’m not throwing away any important data that I haven’t backuped elswere before deleting them. (would also like the ability to load an GHO image in a virtual machine in case I need to use some old program that I no longer have, but that’s not a current need right now.)

Norton Ghost Explorer 11.5 was free but the download links are not working for me. Is it because I am in Indonesia at the moment and VPN is blocked, or are the files no longer there?

ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/pr…

ftp://ftp.norton.com/public/english_us_canada/prod…

Alternatively, how to install old versions of Norton Ghost on Windows? I understand that it is not compatible for imaging, but surely it could open and extract GHO files?

I have the CDs for:

 • Norton Ghost 2003 (but no key on the sleeve)
 • Norton Ghost 10 (2005) with key – but will not install on windows 10 (gave error that it is not compatible with the OS)
 • Norton Ghost 14 (2007) with key – installed ok but I don’t see how to open GHO files! (only opens v2i files?!)
 • Nortong Ghost 15 (2009) but the key is unredable (old thermal yellow sticker, parts of the numers faded or rubbed off)

I should also have my old NG boot CDs. Can I boot them in a Virtual Machine in Win 10? (Sounds cumbersome.)

Other possible solutions?

Thank you in advance.

Symantec Endpoint Security & Windows 10 (1903) Error Prompt

I need a solution

Hi,

Recently I am experiencing a prompt while using Outlook 2016 with Symantec Endpoint Security add-on. Below is the screenshot of it:

I have tried disabled the add on via Outlook 2016 but still encountered this error. Is there any solution for this, apart from un-installing Symantec Endpoint Client?

Thanks.
