Vertias Error EC950020

I need a solution

When I try to recover using the recovery disk I only show the last backup made. If I chose all files I can chose an older backup but I get this Error EC950020: Enter a valid system index filename to continue. If I use an older recovery disk from Vertias 16 I can chose any file I want with no problem.

What I noticed that all the backup images have a V2I file extension. When you use the SP4 recovery DVD it changes the last backup image to a SV2I file extension. It will error out if you use all files to get to get to the previous files that are V2I extensions. If I use a recovery DVD that I made in 2018. This doesn’t happen. I made a new recovery DVD using SP3 and the results are the same.

How to to add more than 200 VM’s in machine catalog when using Azure as hosting unit

Add a custom property to the catalog properties.

  • Retrieve the existing custom properties of the catalog:

> Get-ProvScheme -ProvisioningSchemeName “catalog name”

  • Copy the Custom Properties XML to clipboard
  • Define a set of custom properties including the new property:

> $customProperties = ‘ copy updated custom properties ‘

  • Paste the XML between the ” characters above, and insert the text ‘<Property xsi:type=”IntProperty” Name=”StorageAccountsPerResourceGroup” Value=”7″/> into the property set, e.g.:

$customProperties = “<CustomProperties xmlns=”http://schemas.citrix.com/2014/xd/machinecreation” xmlns:xsi=”http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance“><Property xsi:type=”StringProperty” Name=”UseManagedDisks” Value=”false” /><Property xsi:type=”StringProperty” Name=”StorageAccountType” Value=”Premium_LRS” /><Property xsi:type=”StringProperty” Name=”ResourceGroups” Value=”pmcs-6102-resource-group-2a,pmcs-6102-resource-group-2b” /><Property xsi:type=”IntProperty” Name=”StorageAccountsPerResourceGroup” Value=”7″/></CustomProperties>”

(don’t copy the above verbatim, it’s an example)

  • Assign the new set of custom properties to the provisioning scheme

> Set-ProvScheme -ProvisioningSchemeName “ProvisioningSchemeNameToEdit” -CustomProperties $customProperties

Using REST API for getting suspicious files from endpoints

I need a solution

This is refering to https://www.symantec.com/connect/forums/using-rest…

As per https://apidocs.symantec.com/home/saep#_send_a_sus… I was able to issue a “/api/v1/command-queue/files” command successfully which then returned the commandID.

Based on this ID I found the [BINARY_RESULTS_ID] in the [COMMAND] table with the given [COMMAND_ID] to run the “/api/v1/command-queue/file/{file_id}/content” successfully, too.

After saving the output so a file I was able to open the “archive” and saw two files:

– binary file
– metadata.xml

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<MetaFile>
<File Key="128" OriginalFileName="\?C:WindowsSystem32notepad.exe" OriginalFilePath="\?C:WindowsSystem32" FileName="fa2258b2cc57610861ed1279079e2854cce6768178fe7b3e952a56a990403e66" FileSource="filesystem" FileXORed="true"/>
</MetaFile>

The only issue I’m facing now is that I’m unsure how to “convert” the binary file back to its original format (.exe)
I guess you would have to remove the XOR encryption.

Error logs full of – Unable to generate policy XML for item

I need a solution

Hi Everyone, I’m hoping someone can help me. I’ve just “inherited” full responsibility of our Altiris solution. Everything was working well until just before Christmas. I’ve started to notice a few issues, I won’t go into all of them right now bu the one that concerns me the most is the following.

I’ve found load sof error logs in C:ProgramDataSymantecSMPLogs

And they all start with [CDATA[Unable to generate policy XML for item:

The item is different on each entry but all apply to an active policy, for example

[CDATA[Unable to generate policy XML for item: ‘TPU Adobe Reader 17’ or [CDATA[Unable to generate policy XML for item: ‘TPU Adobe Flashplayer Win 7 21’

Has anyone seen this type of error before? If so, I’d really appreciate some help / pointers.

Thanks in Advance.

Redirect ulayersvc.log to another folder or drive

The location of the log file is controlled by the file C:Program FilesUnideskLayering ServicesULayer.exe.config:

<file value=”${ALLUSERSPROFILE}UnideskLogsulayersvc.log”/>

That file is copied directly from the master copy in the ELM whenever an image is published, so you cannot change it in a layer and have it published. You can modify it in the published image, however. Publish the image with Elastic Layering enabled, boot in a persistent mode, edit that file, and go back to your normal, nonprsistent mode. The next boot will have the modified version of the config file, and will redirect the file to wherever you specify.

For PVS, for instance, “persistent mode” means “private mode”, and you would return to Standard Mode after the edit. For MCS or Horizon View, you can boot up the published image machine, edit it, create a new snapshot, and assign that to your catalog/pool.

Re: [ScaleIO] Virtual disk bad block medium error is detected.

Hello all,

We got several [Storage Service Virtual disk bad block medium error is detected.: Virtual Disk X (Virtual Disk X)] logs in scaleIO server.

I believe this disk went bad and it caused unrecovered read error.

What I want to ask is, when I check [query_all_sds] and [query_sds], this sds seems to be healthy and all DISK seems normal.

Is this normal?

Also can you please let me know the details about monitoring disks in SDSs. Does MDM checks all disks in all SDSs frequently? or when SDC cannot connect to Disk, SDC informs MDM , then it changes mapping towards SDCs?

Thanks.
