View-Only Sharing

Enable View-Only

View-Only Sharing must be enabled for your account. Submit a request to ShareFile Customer Care to have this feature enabled.

This feature requires configuration changes to your StorageZones Controller. Click here for information on how to configure your StorageZones Controller to support View-Only Sharing.

This feature requires configuration changes to your NetScaler. Click here for information on how to configure your NetScaler to support View-Only Sharing.

Supported Files

  • Microsoft Office Files
  • PDF
  • Image files (requires SZC v3.4.1 or later)
    • BMP
    • GIF
    • JPG
    • JPEG
    • PNG
    • TIF
    • TIFF

View-Only and Audio / Video Files

Audio and Video files may be viewed with the view-only permission, but only if the audio and video files are stored on a public (Citrix-Managed) StorageZone. Only supported file types can be previewed, click here for supported types.

Due to the above, you cannot share audio and video files as a view-only message if they are stored on a private zone.

Share a File with View-Only Permissions

Once View-Only Sharing has been enabled for your account, a new setting will appear in Message Options when sharing files. Use the Allow Recipients To dropdown menu to select View Online Only. You may then customize how many views each user is permitted.

User-added image

When your recipient accesses the download link, the Download button will not be present and the recipient will be prevented from printing or saving the file.

Note – Sharing audio and video files as a view-only message is only supported for audio / video files stored on a public StorageZone. See info on those file types earlier in this article.

Grant a User the View Permission

Grant users the View permission if you want to control access to files stored in certain folders. When adding new users to folder access, select the View checkbox to grant them the permission. When viewing the folder contents with this permission, your user will not be able to download or share files. They must use the magnifying glass icon to preview the files.

Note regarding Restricted Zones and DLP

The following files cannot be previewed or shared with the View-Only permission:

  • Files stored on a Restricted StorageZone
  • Files restricted from downloading due to DLP policy settings

Do Views trigger download notifications?

Yes, if you select to be notified when a file has been accessed.

Troubleshooting

Files cannot be previewed

  • During setup, the URL of your Microsoft Office Web Apps server must be entered into the StorageZones Controller console. The URL used must be accessible by ender users to support View-Only Sharing.
  • During setup, it is recommended that users synchronize the clock of their StorageZones Controller server with time.windows.com or another NTP server. Click here for information on Windows Time Service Tools.

View-only message cannot be sent

  • You cannot share a view-only message containing audio and video files if those files are stored on a private zone.

Note:

Restricting Print works only with few files as Citrix has no control over Browser or Operating System. Microsoft Office files which redact data when printing and restrict from printing is due to Microsoft Office Online Servers restriction and not due to ShareFile.

4.x/2.x – The list of installed updates on a desktop is almost always wrong

Why are the updates listed in add/remove programs incorrect:

In looking at the list of applied updates in the Windows Updates control panel on a desktop, those are almost always wrong. Unidesk/App Layering makes no effort to merge that list from multiple layers, and the list you do see is mostly what the desktop had at initial creation. Depending on registry key collisions (the list is maintained in the registry), some later updates may also show up in the list.

But you should not believe that that list in a desktop is correct or complete. You must trust your app layers. Other than looking at specific files you know were provided by an update, there is no way to verify that a specific update is actually applied to a desktop.

This applies to Windows, Office, and any other Microsoft software which uses the Windows Updates mechanism.

Citrix Workspace app 1904 for Windows – Unable to connect to the server SSL Error 4

To resolve this issue:

Option 1 (recommended):

Update the Gateway with a compatible cipher suite (See Cryptographic Update for supported cipher suites), following the steps outlined in: CTX235509

Option 2:

Note: This should be considered a short-term workaround, since previous versions of CWA contains a security vulnerability; see CTX251986 for details

Uninstall Citrix Workspace app 1904 (See Control Panel –> Programs –> Uninstall a Program )

Download and install Citrix Workspace app 1903 from here: Download link

ScrollBar size on XenApp 7.6 (Server 2012)

Customize the size of the Scrollbar on a VDA running 7.6.

Normal behaviour is as follows:

Change the Windows Metrics for Scrollbar on a Server VDA using the following Registry Key.

  • HKEY_CUControl PanelDesktopWindowsMetrics
  • ScrollHeight
  • ScrollWidth

When launching a Desktop from that VDA, the Windows Metrics are as you set them on the server.

When launching an application on its own, it does not take in the server metrics it takes in the client machine metrics

EXE files locked on network share

I need a solution

Hi everyone

I have this weird problem and was wondering if anyone had any ideas where to go next.

In short, when I access network share EXE files get locked. If I try deleting any EXE (from Windows Explorer for example) it dissappears for a couple of seconds (or until Refresh) and then reappears. Cannot move it, cannot rename it. Only when I logoff (and, I guess, network connections get cut off) files are deleted.

If I try deleting these files locally (on the computer hosting network share) I get “File access denied” error. Unlocker/IObit Unlocker both report file(s) not in use, but cannot delete them, only after unlocking with Open File List utility (OFL.exe) file(s) can be deleted locally. Sometimes even OFL cannot unlock them, for example if I try deleting/refreshing few times.

Went through network share permissions/ACLs first, although nothing was changed to trigger this. Tried couple of other things, but only after CleanWipe-ing this particular computer (my admin workstation) things went back to normal. SEP client reinstallation reintroduced the issue. I tried to vary policies, our standard, SEP default, all off, tried unmanaged, tried disabling everything possible and its always the same. After that I went with second CleanWipe with thorough registry clean. Reinstalled the client, nothing is changed.

As far as I tested, none of the other SEP clients/LAN computers are affected. This one has fully updated Windows 7 Pro, 14.2 MP1 client, nothing (related to this) in Windows logs, nothing in SEP logs. I think this started happening with 14.2, but cannot say for sure.

Anyone has any idea? Seen something like this before?

Regards
