Connectrix B-Series: Device logging in as a loopback

Article Number: 504622 Article Version: 3 Article Type: Break Fix

Connectrix,Connectrix B-Series Hardware

Why does a HBA or storage device automatically configure to a loopback port?

This could be caused by controller configuration on the HBA or storage.

Check if the end device is configured for Fiber Channel Arbitrated loop (FC-AL). Also check the integrity of the SFP and cable and reset the port as follows

– portcfgpersistentdisable

– portcfgdefault

– portcfgpersistentenable.

If the status of the port is still loopback after doing the above, move the cable to a free port. If the issue follows then it could well be an issue with the connected device and more troubleshooting would need to be done at that end.

Re: HOW TO CONNECT HOST DIRECTLY TO THE VNX5400 without SAN switch

For direct attach, it’s the same as for a switch, except you can only connect as many paths as you have HBA’s (fiber channel or iSCSI). If your host has one HBA, you can only connect one cable to the array. So you should have at least two HBA’s so you can connection one HBA to SPA and the other HBA to SPB to have failover protection.

Go to this link and select VNX Series, then in the VNX Server Tasks, select Attach a Server and follow the wizard.,

Re: gatekeeper migration and discover

this is being done on an aix host

I am migrating 7 luns from an existing emc san array to another emc san array…and need to remove the old luns

6 luns are gatekeepers and 1 lun is data — 40 G

I ran config manager on the host and the new luns are showing up from the new array….

I will perform a migratepv to move the data from old 40 Gig disk to the new 40G disk

at this point I will remove disk from vg and rmdev the disk from the aix odm

question is

how to remove the other 6 old 3 meg gatekeep devices?

do I need to move the data from the old pv to the new pv via migratepv

or do I just remove the old gk devices by rmdeving them and them unzoning them?

also, there was a mention of a discovery that is recommended to be done…

how do I do a discovery?

do I run discover after I rmdev all the luns?

IsilonSD Edge cluster installation problems

Hi,

I am trying to deploy an IsilonSD Edge 3 node cluster, on my Vxrail environment that I have running. I have already successfully deployed the Isilon Management Server, added an Edge license, registered successfully with the VxRail vcenter and uploaded the OneFS image.

When I try to create the cluster however, I put in all the relevant details and it fails while trying to create the cluster VMs, with the following error –

“Unable to create IsilonSD virtual machine: IsilonSD-isilononefs-1. Error. java.net.UnknownHostException: Vxrailnode1.vxrail.local.com”

When I check the logs on vSphere, this is the error I see:

“vSAN datastore does not have capacity.

Possible Causes:

This might be because no disk is configured for vsan, local disks configured for vsan service become inaccessible or flash disks configured for vsan service become inaccessible.

Action: check is vsan storage configuration is correct and if the local disks and flash disks configured vsan service are accessible.”

Now, I understand this is a self explanatory message. However, the fact is that I have over 15TB total space out of which 12TB is free, and I’m trying to create a cluster of 2TB capacity.

When I log into one of the ESXi hosts to check for any errors, there aren’t any. I looked into the Isilon management server logs and this is what I see when I try to build the cluster –

My Vxrail version is 4.5.229

Esxi version – 6.5

IsilonSD Edge MS version 1.1.0

Any clue on what could be going wrong here? Any help on this would be really appreciated.

Thanks,

Re: Remove Virtual Fabric

Hello,

I need help for merging 2 switches where VF needs to be disabled.

Below is our current Brocade switches configuration;

Model: Brocade 6520

Switches:

Switch_1

Switch_2

Zoning: Soft

VF > Enabled

1) FID: 128

> cfgzone: Not Defined

> Fabric: n/a

2) FID: 2

> cfgczone: Zoning_A (Defined and Active)

> Fabric: Switch_1

3) FID: 6

> cfgzone: Zoning_B (Defined and Active)

> Fabric: Switch_1 & Switch_2

All FIDs, i.e. 128, 2, 6 have ports connected and zoned.

Scenerio 1: Disable Virtual Fabric

(A) We need to get rid of virtual fabric, i.e. FID 2, 6, and finally 128

(B) I need Default switch into Fabric with no impact to current zones and alias.

> I am ok with Downtime of assets connected

> I am ok with creating a New Defined Zoning Configuration.

Scenerio 2: Keep Virtual Fabric Enabled, but delete FID 2 & FID 6, so using just Default FID 128

> I am ok with Downtime of assets connected

> I am ok with creating a New Defined Zoning Configuration.

> What will happen to zones and alias when ports are move from FID 2 & FID 6 to FID 128

> What will happen to zones and alias when finally all ports are in FID 128 and we disable Virtual fabric

Step by step process to achieve scenerio 1& 2 will be highly appreicated.

Thanks
