Using Application & Device Control on an unmanaged SEP 14 client

I need a solution

Hi,

I want to know the best way forward where we have a number of Windows 10 clients which will either never connect to a network or may rarely do so.  I am thinking of making them unmanaged clients in this case, which will be no plroblem from an update point of view as they will be able to update using the intelligent updater files from Symantec, however we also need to manage the USB devices so that only  certain ones can be utilised.  The list of approved USB drives will be subject to regular changes and we will need to have the ability to add / remove them in the field on the unmanaged clients.

From what I have read, this sounds as though this will need to be done by creating the appropriate policy on a computer with the SEP Manager inistalled, and then the policy shipped out to the client and imported, but this sounds potentially cumbersome so I was wondering if there is another way of doing this on the unmanaged client directly using the latest version of SEP.

Please can someone advise me the best way forward,

Thanks

Chris

Dell EMC Unity XT Rises to the Top in Independent Storage Performance and Efficiency Testing

The success or failure of many storage solutions is often determined by an array’s performance across a variety of workloads. A modern storage array must concurrently deliver performance, data reduction and data services, enabling organizations to deliver increased efficiencies and thrive in today’s complex application environments. The Dell EMC Unity product line has already delivered on these capabilities by increasing data reduction rates by ~80% since initial release (December 2016). And now with the recently refreshed Unity XT, we’re raising the bar yet again. In order to quantify all of the enhancements we’ve made with Unity … READ MORE

HELP!!! Failed to Import Server Policy

I need a solution

Hi there,

We have been having issues with scheduled scans on our network PC’s. I have been manually pushing them out to over 500 pc’s for the last few days as very few of our policies are working since the upgrade to version 14.2.758.

I went into the management console and found that most computers on the network have no policy serial number. I have also checked the system logs and noticed erros failed to import server policy.. (after receiving a new policy with serial number.)

I have moved the pcs into different groups but to no avail.

I cannot manually go to each PC and import a policy..

Please help!!!

Kind Regards,

Dave

NIC teaming not working with sep 12.1.6

I need a solution

Hello,

I try to install SEP 12.1.6 on our new Server (Windows Server 2016) , the server has 2 NICs configured as team (Mode LACP – dynamic – 2x 10G Broadcom Interfaces).

As soon as I install sep the team is not reachable anymore, it seems like the IP configuration has been lost.

I tried the following workaround from the KB Broadcom Teaming network adapter fails to acquire IP address after installing Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1 but it does not fix my problem. When I uninstall the SEP package everything is working fine.

Any ideas to fix the problem ?

Re: VPLEX for Data Migration purpose only

We have successfully migrated more than 5000+ hosts from 3par, xp 24k etc to vmax 200k, vmax 40k and vnx in last 1 year using vplex extent level mobility jobs. All down time we require is once, just to reboot the server. Nothing much to worry about, migration process is clean with less down time.

Let me see if I could prepare a doc out of it.

High level process I would assume, existing array is zoned with vplex ports. below is what you have to do in arrays.

1. Present existing Luns to vplex > encapsulate them > Create extents>devices and VVs on top. ( Don’t add it to the group)

2. Present New Luns to vplex,> Encapsulate>Create Extents. Don’t create devices and VVs for new Luns.

3. Create new zones for hosts to vplex. (Don’t activate new zones, just keep them ready.)

4. Discover initiators on vplex and ensure host is logged in.

5. Ensure multi-pathing tools and the add-ons are configured properly. (Don’t worry unless you use windows MPIO)

Migration steps

6. Bring down host.

7. Disable Original Zone, ( Source array to Host) and activate new zones to vplex

8. On vplex, add VVs to storage view, add initiators and select desired port groups to make LUns visible.

9. Power on host, Original LUNs from Source array is still the ones host would see, but its via vplex. Since there is no change in disk signature, Host should come up with disks with out any issues.

10. Apps and other services can be started. Have any of the wintel/app team member check services and disk status.

11. Once all confirmed, you may kick off a extent mobility job to the new targets in vplex. Please note, Mobility job is transparent to the host. We don’t have to bring down host again.

SEPPrep push to a large number of clients?

I need a solution

Hello,

I’m gradually migrating a fairly large enterprise from McAfee to SEP 14.2.  I have a SEPM setup with a client protecting the SEPM server.  I want to start prioritizing migration for groups.  I figure I’d start with a test group of 100 and move up to 1,000 clients.  Since I’m going to be removing McAfee and it has previously shown itself to be VERY persistant and obstinant to removal, I wanted to use the SEPPrep/competing-products removal tool enmasse to cleanly remove McAfee just prior to pushing SEP.  It appears that it’s intended to be used on a single client at a time.  Is there a supported way to push the tool to a large number of clients to ensure McAfee gets removed cleanly?

Thanks,

Paul
