How to download and install the December 2020 security updates

windows updates december 2020

Updates are already available via Windows Updates and other update management systems. Default Windows installations are configured to find and install updates automatically, but it is also possible to download updates manually to install them.

Tip: it is essential that you create a backup of the system before you install Windows updates as things may go wrong and backups help you restore the previous status quo.

You can check manually for updates in the following way:

  1. Open the Start Menu of the Windows operating system, type Windows Update and select the result.
  2. Select check for updates in the application that opens. Updates may be installed automatically when they are found or offered by Windows; this depends on the operating system and version that is used, and update settings.

Newly discovered Microsoft Store apps distinction

I need a solution

Hello,

Since the upgrade from 8.1 RU7 to 8.5 RU2, we now have the Microsoft Store apps that are discovered.

Questions: Is there a table that will tell me that a software component is from the Microsoft Store?

I know that in Powershell I can do Get-AppxPackage to get a list but I was wondering if it was already available somewhere in SMP.

Thank you,

How to download and install the September 2019 security updates

windows updates september 2019 microsoft

Most home systems receive updates automatically especially when they run Windows 10. Updates are not pushed in real-time to devices running Windows. Some administrators prefer to install security updates the moment they are released, others to wait to make sure that the updates don’t introduce any issues on the system.

Note: it is recommended that you back up the system partition before you install updates. Use programs like Paragon Backup & Recovery Free or Macrium Reflect for that.

Admins may check for updates manually to retrieve the released updates right away. Here is how that is done:

  • Open the Start Menu of the Windows operating system, type Windows Update and select the result.
  • Select check for updates in the application that opens. Updates may be installed automatically when they are found or offered by Windows; this depends on the operating system and version that is used, and update settings.

Updates may also be downloaded from the Microsoft Update Catalog website.

SEP 14.2 RU1(3335): service “SepMasterService” crashes randomly on Windows 10

I need a solution

Hello guys,
It happens sometimes, like one time per several days on latest Win 10 x64 1903 Enterprise
Event log says “The Symantec Endpoint Protection service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 3 time(s).”. Error: 7034
When I start service manually after that failure it works properly but it can’t be recovered aromatically because there is no recovery option after third failure.
I was trying to add it but I have no access even during command prompt.
Please see screenshots.

I would like to fix that crashes and if it’s possible add additional recovery restart service option to 3rd or later failures.

I also have SEP clients on Windows 8.1 and they have no problem, no one crash was noticed.

Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

I need a solution

Our desktop guy was setting up a new laptop for a user and received the following error with the latest package release. The laptop is a new HP running Windows 10 with Windows updates applied and on the clients domain. Logging in as either the user with admin rights or the domain admin produced the same error. We have 15 licenses available so it was not a license issue. We ended up using a package that was a month old and were able to install Symantec Cloud. We then ran live update to update the agent. Any ideas as to what may have caused this and possibly a fix moving forward would be appreciated. We get these setups on a regular basis and this is the first one we had this particular issue with.

Offline upgrade ITMS 8.1 RU1 to ITMS RU7

I need a solution

Hello,

I am looking to upgrade the ITMS solution from 8.1 RU1 to 8.5 RU2. As per the supported procedure, I am first trying to get my solution upgraded to 8.1 RU7. The server does not have internet connectivity enabled. Please help me with details of how do I create an offline upgrade package to RU7 using SIM installed in a computer which has internet connectivity.
